THE bizarre Romanian twins who have TWICE been dismissed as a joke on TV’s Popstars: The Rivals are set to have the last laugh – by landing a record deal.

Skinny 19-year-olds Monica and Gabriela Irimia have been approached
by around half a dozen producers and label scouts keen to work with them.
The music chiefs reckon the brunette sisters — who come from Transylvania — could have a huge hit with their wacky song We Are The Cheeky Girls.
The daft ditty, penned by their mum Margaret, prompted Popstars judge Pete Waterman to brand them “the worst act ever” after their appearance on the first show on ITV1 two weeks ago.
When Pete and fellow judges Louis Walsh and Geri Halliwell asked where they were from, Gabriela said:
“We’re from Romania. You know, Transylvania — just like Dracula.”
Pete then joked: “You can suck the blood out of me any time.”
Bemused Louis asked: “You are definitely girls, aren’t you?” and
after hearing We Are The Cheeky Girls, Geri shook her head and said: “You
are unforgettable.”
Twins ... could be chart champs
But the judges’ reaction did not put the girls off and they turned up at another audition which was screened on last Saturday’s show.
This time Monica and Gabriela performed another song written by Margaret — Good Things Come To Those Who Wait — and the three judges all burst out laughing.
But their reaction has not stopped a string of record industry bigwigs beating a path to the girls’ door.
One even wants to record a disco version of the Cheeky song.
Hungarian-born mum Margaret said last night: “They all think it could be a big hit. We are having talks with them but do not want to rush into anything.
“It’s like a dream come true for the girls.”
Gabriela said: “We have been singing and dancing since we were three — it’s all we’ve ever wanted to do. We’re so excited that at last we are breaking into showbusiness.”
Monica told The Sun: “It was clear Pete Waterman thought we were very sexy by his blood-sucking comment. Our figures are so slim and toned, which is a big thing for people.

“But we’re both still virgins
because we are very fussy about men — so Pete does not stand a chance. Pete
is a very important man and has lots of experience. But he is not my type at all
and I would never go for him, even to further my career.
“I don’t find him sexy — I don’t go for 60-year-olds.”
Gabriela added: “I just can’t understand why we didn’t get through. No one came with their own songs and performed them like we did.
“I think they liked us, that’s why we thought it was worth trying a second time. Geri said she would never forget us — which is a great compliment.
“Louis asked about us being girls but I think he was just confused because we had been talking about vampires.”
The sisters’ letdown on Popstars was not their first failed bid for stardom. For The Sun can reveal that they twice auditioned for Channel 4’s forthcoming series Model Behaviour, first in London, then in Birmingham.
Viewers will see them failing
to get past the first round in the series, which is searching for a man and a
woman to appear on a magazine cover.
The girls got their first taste of TV fame four years ago when they appeared on a Romanian quiz show and won a fortnight’s stay at Dram Castle, where Dracula was supposed to have lived.
Monica said: “We loved the castle and got interested in vampires. But we are definitely not vampires — yet.”
The girls were raised in the Transylvanian town of Cluj-Napoca by their father Doru, a doctor. Mum Margaret emigrated to England nine years ago.
After they graduated from ballet college a year ago the twins decided to move to Rye, East Sussex, to live with 47-year-old Margaret and her English husband Ray, an exhibition contractor.
Housewife Margaret is right behind their bid for fame.
She said: “I am very proud of them because they are so talented.
“When we went into our local pub a few days ago the landlord was dancing behind the bar, wiggling his bum, begging them to sing with him.
“Everyone sings the Cheeky song to them in the streets. And we have had a lot of phone calls from people who want them to sell cheeky knickers, cheeky mugs or cheeky clothes.
“We are trying to get the name of Cheeky Girls trademarked because it has caught on so much.”
Popstars: The Rivals is on ITV1 on Saturday at 7.10pm. Model Behaviour starts on Channel 4 on September 25 at 9pm

Week1
A set of twins turned up to the London auditions hoping to impress the judges with an original composition.
Monica and Gabriella, originally from Transylvania, performed a song written for them by their mother.

Week2
Transylvanian twins Monica and Gabriela returned for a second audition at the Manchester heats.
The pair sent the judges -- and the nation -- into laughter with an original composition, "cheeky girls", during the London rounds. Having not made it through, they decided to give it another go up north.
Another original tune -- composed by their mother -- was the order of the day. Here are the lyrics:

Trannie (as in Transylvanian) sisters performing on Popstars: The Rivals? I'd
look for it myself (I am sure some mad, sad person out there has taped it and
put it online), but I am still breezing through the net from internet cafes across
London and I can't spend too long online.
